- Kelly Ripa is clapping back at fans who want to give unsolicited advice about her hair.
- On Live! with Kelly and Ryan, she said people even approach her in the grocery store to give opinions on her look.
- “I’m like, ‘I have no comparison for your hair, but I assume it looks pretty great every day,’” she recounted.
The viewers of Live! with Kelly and Ryan are notoriously opinionated—particularly when it comes to Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest’s hair. And Ripa wants to know why.
On the February 9 episode of the talk show, Seacrest revealed that he’s growing his mane out for a pre-taped Oscars performance and that he plans on cutting it soon after. The audience let out a resounding, “Awww,” to which the American Idol host responded: “We’ll survive, it’ll be fine.”
The interaction made Ripa wonder if Seacrest gets as much hair criticism from fans as she does. “People weigh in on my hair in a way, it’s like, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t ask you,’” she said.
Not only do fans feel the need to share advice online—they even go as far as to approach Ripa in public with their musings. “I thought you meant at the store, like, do people come and weigh in?” Seacrest asked.
“No, people do!” she declared. “They come up in the store and they’re like, ‘I like your hair this length.’” The All My Children star said she often gives them a passive thumbs up in response. Seacrest was supportive of the gesture. “Please continue to do that to Kelly,” he quipped.

Sometimes, she’ll go the extra mile and comment on her spectator’s hair—you know, to return the favor. “I’m like, ‘I have no comparison for your hair, but I assume it looks pretty great every day,’” she recounted.
Live! producer Michael Gelman then chimed in, adding that people often “write in” to the show to comment on the co-hosts’ hairstyles.
“The height of your hair, what your hair looks like, what you should do with your hair—both of you,” he explained, adding that his hair, thankfully, isn’t usually a topic of conversation. “Not much to talk about,” he laughed.
This isn’t the first time Ripa has clapped back at fans for their unwarranted advice. In 2020, when she and Seacrest shot the talkshow from home, she gave a stern talking to a viewer who criticized her “lack of personal grooming” on Instagram. Mind you, at the time she had limited supplies and no usual hair and makeup crew.

“We are dressed,” she replied tersely. “FCC rules, not mine.” In another comment, she added: “I’ll bring it up at the next meeting.”
The mom of three previously put another person in their place for saying she looked “shiny” in her at-home shoots. “First of all, let me just say, to people commenting about our appearance, ‘How dare you and you’re lucky that we actually put clothes on,” the star joked on Live. “It’s harder than you think to roll out of bed and come to a TV show.”
But wait, there’s more—she’s even had to address comments about her feet after followers accused her of editing one out (?) of a family vacation photo. The actress called them “weirdos” for bringing it up. “I don’t know, maybe I’m just jet-lagged, but can you explain to me why people are fixated on my feet in a family photo?” she said on her Instagram Story at the time.
Later bringing up the comment on Live!, she added: “If you zoom in long enough on anything, you can always find something.”
The moral of the story is, no one likes unsolicited advice—especially not Kelly Ripa.
