Rihanna Is Pregnant! 10 Items That Could Complete Her Maternity Style

4 min read

It is nearly impossible to predict what a pregnant Rihanna is going to wear for the next couple of months. After all, she is without a doubt going to completely redefine maternity style as we know it. And yes, Rihanna certainly does not need style advice, but that didn’t stop us from compiling fantasy looks for the most fearlessly dressed mother-to-be.

Will she be the one to finally convince us to embrace the return of low-rise jeans? Or will she be the reason the term maternity mini is added to the fashion dictionary? She has already blessed us with a photo of her bare midriff draped in a divinely unbuttoned vintage Chanel coat and a jewel-encrusted crucifix. Who knows what she’ll pull out of her enviable closet next?

We here at Vogue are sitting on the edge of our seats, waiting for her next maternity ensembles. But until then, here are 10 items we’re hoping to see her have fun with and incorporate into her pregnancy.

Pant Boots

Rih is no stranger to statement-making shoes. Back in 2016, she collaborated with Manolo Blahnik and created the most epic pair of denim boots, which included crystal-adorned straps that fasten at the waist. Yes, they gave new meaning to the term over-the-knee boots and turned out to be the perfect option for glamorous expectant moms. Rih even shouted out style star Kahlana Barfield Brown, who graciously struck a pose in them while she was expecting her first child.

Feather Pajamas

Yes, comfort is at the backbone of maternity dressing, but Rihanna’s definition of comfy clothes always includes a hint of glam, whether she’s wearing sweatpants with heels or an oversized T-shirt with chandelier earrings. Wouldn’t it be a dream to see the expectant mother strutting through the streets in cozy pajamas adorned with fanciful feathers—like the Prada number she wore to the Met gala after-party in 2017?

Belly Chains and Midriff-Baring Tops

Perhaps the expectant mother will take us back to her “Pon De Replay” days with glittering belly chains. The early aughts are already trending so it wouldn’t be a surprise if she bedazzled her growing belly with gold chains and sparkling diamonds. And whether it’s an unbuttoned cardigan or a crop top, we hope to see more bare-stomach outfits in Rihanna’s future. The expectant mother joins a list of recent celebrities who have made a case for showing off their growing bellies, from Emily Ratajkowski to Kylie Jenner.

Maternity Minis

Last Friday, Rihanna was photographed wearing a tweed Saint Laurent micro mini skirt. Like my colleague, Christian said, “If anyone can pull off a maternity mini skirt, it’s her.”

Peek-a-Boo Dresses

Speaking of showing a hint of skin, Rihanna gave the world life when she wore a sheer Adam Selman number to the 2014 CFDA Awards. Now, as she prepares to give life, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she delivered (no pun intended) another glorious reveal-and-conceal moment. She has already shown off her love for Nensi Dojaka’s pieces, so another sheer moment from the brand seems fitting.

Low-Rise Jeans

Whether you hate or love low-rise jeans, there’s no denying the sense of freedom that comes with wearing a pair of jeans fastened well below the belly button. Vogue’s Liana Statenstein puts it well: “It’s unabashed confidence at its finest.” That’s why we can certainly picture Rih wearing a few pairs slung low as she steps into motherhood.

Gunna-Inspired Outfits

Fashion icon Rihanna dressed up as our other favorite fashion icon, Gunna, for Halloween. But wouldn’t it be fun to see the Gunna-inspired looks keep coming—even during her pregnancy? After all, he consistently delivers hit after hit in the music and fashion department.

Savage X Fenty

And if you’re reading this, Rihanna, yes, we need maternity Savage x Fenty lewks. Picture how perfectly extra the lingerie pieces would be for all Savage mamas around the world.
