“I believe good skin and beauty is about five things,” Debby Ryan muses, moments after cleansing her complexion. “It’s about rituals, gratitude, drinking a lot of water, getting a lot of sleep, and finding what works for you.” In the case of the 28-year-old actress and Night Teeth star, that means a mix-and-match approach of lotions, potions, and, perhaps most importantly, a handful of powerful depuffing tools. (Think: a red light wand, gua sha massager, and cold-to-the-touch ice globes.) “I think the biggest lesson that I’ve learned is the emphasis on skin care… allows it so that before you’ve even put on makeup so much of the work has done for you,” she explains, before adding with a smile, “Then you can really highlight and emphasize the few things that you think are great and are really outstanding and that you want to play up or allow to shine.”
Day to day, Ryan reaches for just sheer coverage courtesy of Chanel; a taupe tint, applied onto her cheeks, lids, and lower lash lines; and a burgundy-colored mascara. But in the evening, she amps up her makeup equation—especially when her husband, Josh Dun of Twenty One Pilots, is on stage. “This is how I take it from day to night,” she says, as she executes a smoky eye with just three pencils in brown, gold, and white. Turning to a illuminating Westman Atelier stick, she continues, “I don’t wear blush for the shows because I dance a lot… but this highlighter catches the light in a really pretty way”—as does a pair of teeny-tiny Swarovski crystals, which she sticks on directly underneath her eye with just a dot of lash glue. Call it subtle sparkle with serious staying power.
